Pappy Kershenstine's Beef Jerky Steak

PAPPY KERSHENSTINE'S BEEF JERKY STEAK
"STEAK IN A BAG"

GRADE: A+

There it is.
Ragged as can be,
Oh, I love those memories.
They're still so dear to me,
When Pappy smoked his beef jerky
under that ole Oak tree.
My, how I love to smell that smoke,
while Pappy sang to me.
Pappy's grandsons have followed the
family tradition in trying to keep
it that way.

The Old Home Place -- poem from the back of package

Oh yea, Pappy Kershenstine's jerky!!!! I grew up on this stuff, and have been eating this stuff for the past 25 years. Kershenstine's Beef Jerky Inc. makes this stuff in Eupora Mississippi which looks like it is located in northern Mississippi, how this stuff makes it to Southern Louisiana I'll never know, but I'm glad it does. I love this jerky so much that I usually eat it for breakfast 2 or 3 times a week. Very salty (1220 Mg. of Sodium) and peppery, it goes great with a nice cold beer. The texture varies from thick and chewy to thin and crisp, and thus lies the beauty of the product.... everytime you grab a bag it's a different taste experience. Sometimes you get a bag that is very thick and peppery, the next time it may thin and crispy with no peppery taste. I have found this product mostly in independent gas/mini marts around Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Please let me know what other states this stuff shows up.

I remember back in the early 90's Kershenstine made a beer called "Rattlesnake Beer" and a wine cooler called "Rattlesnake Cooler". I'm not sure if they still make these things, but the jerky is still around..... Only negative--- Maybe it was in my mind, but a few months after Hurricane Katrina, I found that the stuff took on a different taste, can't really put my finger on it, but the taste was "stronger". Recently I found the taste went back to normal....

I live in West Michigan. My uncle sells Pappy Kershenstines steak in a bag at his liquor store. It's by far my favorite jerky and in my opinion way better quality than the super mainstream bagged jerky brands. It also doesnt seem to be as expensive.

We used to find it in Clearwater, Florida in the mid 1980's at our local grocery store. I do believe that it is the first and best jerky I have ever had the pleasure of tasting.
Thanks for the post!

I've been buying this jerky at Southside party store in holland michigan for many many years...I wish I could find it on the east side of the state too.

A few days ago I purchased a l.2 ounce bag of this beef jerky.
Looked real good.
After purchase I noticed there was no expireation date.
That should have been my first clue.
It was horrible tasting, downright nasty with a very stale flavor!

Only jerky I care to eat.But I do agree that after the hurricane the quality seemed to fall. However the flavor has gotten bck to it's normal excellence. Sitting with a cold beer wishing I had some. I seemed to have found the manufacturer. A.K. Alexis

Rick, does your uncle own Petes Party Store in Holland MI? This is my favorite beef jerky on the planet... My friends and I call it "KipperStink"... My friend Drew couldn't pronounce it correctly back when we were in Highschool and dumbed it down to that. Now everyone I know just calls it that. Every time I go back to visit my parents in Holland I buy like $35.00 worth to bring back to Chicago...

Love... :D

I live in Texas, and my uncle was the one that had be addicted to this beef jerky since I was five we get it from a local gas station two miles from where I live every new shipment that comes in every Saturday, me and my uncle sure do keep that gas station running with how much we buy of the stuff. Im considering using the information someone posted above and see if I can't start buying in cheaper than at the store and in bulk like some have been suggesting

I find that the price of Pappy Kershenstine is getting pretty outrageous. I can not find it cheaper than $4.25 a bag right now, and some places sell it for $5. And it's still only 1.2 ounces! I'm afraid that they are pricing themselves too high. I love the jerky, but even I think twice about buying a bag or two because of the price.

******I BUY IT ON EBAY SOMETIMES UNDER THE SELLER "MINTYKISS2"******

Check under "Beef Jerky or Pappy Kershenstine". Pappy will never disappear from your fingertips again. When I don't see it posted on Ebay, I write to the email ("contact member') and they will usually pleasantly ask me how many would I like posted to buy. The world does turn. :p I hope this helps anyone who has been craving to have some Pappy as much as yours truly. Good Luck!
