Hard Times Beef Jerky

Hard Times Real Beef Jerky

Grade: C

"A Toothpick in every pack"

Yep, and there sure was a toothpick in my pack, as you can see from the picture. Pretty average jerky. Kind of peppery, a very slight smoky flavor. Really mediocre. As I was trying the jerky, I really wanted to like it. The consistency is awesome, and like the packaging says it's sliced meat, not the pressed stuff that passes for jerky these days. But no matter how hard I tried I could not find anything to make this jerky stand out in taste. It just does not have enough flavor. It's not bad, just average. I'd buy this before I buy any of the national brands that are available at every store in America, but I just wish they would add a little more flavor to it. I bought this for $5.50 for a 2.5 ounce bag at the Beef Jerky Emporium, but the jerky is available at their website, hardtimesbeefjerky.com. The problem with their website ordering system is that if you order from them you got to buy a lot of their product, at least 24- 1 ounce packages or 12- 2.5 ounce packages. Too much for me. Again average jerky that I wish had a little more flavor.

Not sure what made you think Robertsons Jerky was better than Hard Times is, but being the Jerky connoisseur that I am I decided I would give it a try. I'm very disappointed in Robertsons and now I think you must know someone at Robertsons and owed them a favor. I will stick with Hard Times as it is 10 times the jerky that Robertson's is. Hard Times is simply the best. Any other readers should not waste their money on any other kind.

I stick by my review on Robertson's. If you read the review it has a warning that I'm very partial to the style of jerky that Robertson's is. I just went to Hard Times website and there is still no way to order reasonable size bags of jerky, the smallest order you can make is for $60 for 12 2/12 oz bags or 24 1 oz bags, too much for most people.

I'm trying to buy beef jerky from Hard Times but it keep directing me to paypal with an error of "Sorry — your last action could not be completed". Anyone know what is going on? Last time I bought from Hard Times website without any problem. But now I can't pay for it.

Hardtimes website.
Hello. I am Tennery's daughter-in-law and I build the website for him. We are working on the "error" message with Paypal. I do not know why it does that sometimes and sometimes not. You can always call the number on the package (1-888-672-9959)to order, J.W. himself will answer the phone. We will get that problem fixed as soon as possible. Blessings! <><

I believe we got the ordering problem fixed. On another note, JW is considering adding a $20 to the website for those of you that want a smaller order. You can leave him feedback on the website. Hope you all have a Blessed day! Alicia <>< www.hardtimesbeefjerky.com

Big John's is my favorite jerky. This is my second favorite and I buy it all the time at the convenience store...

The "Original" is not their best product. "Hot" tastes much different and has just the right amount of heat.

Try that and you'll have a different opinion. This is a really quality product...

Hard Times is the best jerky. Point blank period. I love jerky and I've had lots of different brands. My favorite flavor is the black pepper. Awesomeness.

I too think this is some of the best beef jerky I have ever tried and respectfully disagree with the original review stating that is just average. Quite delicious jerky in my eyes.

I enjoy both robertson's and hard times for different reasons... I just tried to get on hard times website but got a server error. Either way it sounds like bulk ordering is the only way to go. Robertson's shipping charges are outrageous, so I just order the 5 pound box and get free shipping... They are both nice in their own way and both have some sort of crack on them because I can't stop eating it!!

I have enjoyed a ton of jerky in my life, but hard times is the best. Yes it may cost more, but the flavor is incredible. This is an amazing product. I don't live in Oklahoma, but when I pass through I always buy a pack.

Hard Times is excellent beef jerky...just the way I like it. Old fashioned flavor with some chew to it.

I grew up around North Texas and my mom always bought Jim Bowie Meats (Bowie,Tx ; reported closed) and the hot spicy jerky was always my favorite. My dad bought me some of the Hot Hard Times beef jerky that he got in a store in Boyd, Tx. I would say that it is the closest that I've found to the Jim Bowie jerky. Beef Jerky Outlet in Dallas, Tx also has a house pepper jerky that is pretty good. I would say the Hard Times jerky is all-time #2 fav.

I love this Jerky for the flavor it produces. I make jerky from time to time and I usually make it to mimic this flavor. Obviously no jerky is perfect.. However.. If they made the slices thicker, it would probably result in a higher meat flavor.. Which is the main thing I would like more of out of this jerky.. But.. As with pretty much most of these fellow reviewers, as for "Convenient Store Jerky" I have to agree, this is the nest jerky I have came across..
