Bourgeois Beef Jerky

Bourgeois Cajun Beef Jerky

Grade: F

There's a little meat market about 45 minutes north of my small town of Cut Off, it's located in the city of Thibodaux and is called Bourgeois' Meat Market. It's here that they make this "jerky" (if you would call it that). I wouldn't have reviewed this jerky because it's such a local product, but lately I've been seeing them putting the jerky in bags and distributing it to other places. I've seen it in Baton Rouge and New Orleans recently. I first bought this stuff when they only sold it in their market, they used to sell it by the pound and wrap it in white meat paper. It was terrible then and is still terrible now. Some people I talk to swear this is the best "jerky" ever, I don't know what's wrong with these people. Here's the reasons why I hate this stuff:

1- It's really not jerky, it more like a thick cut of meat like a beef slab or something.

2- It's too greasy, if you eat this be prepared to have greasy fingers for hours. Even the bag I have is greasy on the outside.

3- It taste nothing but smoke flavor. I don't mind smoke flavoring, but this stuff overwhelms you.

4. It just tastes outright nasty.

The only reason I have the bag that I reviewed is because a client gave me it as a "gift". I wish he would have given me the 6 or 7 bucks instead of this stuff. If you see this stuff in your local store do yourself a favor and stay away.

I agree, I've been buying their jerky for 20 years and no matter how far I live, I always make the trip to go and get more. It's the best!

No offense, but you're an idiot.

First of all, it's not a "beef slab". It's actually beef tenderloin cut into strips then seasoned.

Second, it's not "greasy". That's actually cooked blood, like what you would have coming out of a medium-rare steak. There is no "grease" since the only thing added to the meat is a dry powder seasoning. It's more appropriate to call it "juicy".

Third, that's not "smoked flavoring" as I'm sure your undeveloped taste buds are used to. That's actually smoked meat you're eating. Smoked for 6 hours. Not dehydrated cardboard with liquid smoke added for flavor.

Finally, as for your opinion of it being "nasty", well that's your opinion, it's your blog, and you're entitled. But if you're going to consider yourself anything of a "jerky connoisseur", do yourself a favor and actually find something out about the product you're reviewing.

My great grandfather started this business in 1891, and I'm very proud to be a part of this family. I've never worked for the market and I stake no claim in the business and I don't speak for them. Nevertheless, I grew up eating this jerky and everything else, to me, "just tastes outright nasty".

You don't have to like it or eat it though. I just thought I'd clarify these facts for readers of your blog. Have a great day!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I can't really call you retarded or an idiot or out of your mind, I'm sure you don't like Bourgeois Beef Jerky, and that's fine. What I can say is that because you don't like Bourgeois Beef Jerky, there is no possible way that I can take you seriously on the subject of beef jerky. I can completely discount every beef jerky opinion you have as completely misguided and irrelevant. Looking through your reviews, it seems like you're the kinda guy who likes the tasteless card board gas station variety of beef jerky. Bourgeois is not that, so I'm glad you don't like it. It's REAL MEAT that's been smoked and has flavor, not some horse hide that was run through a machine and dehydrated. We've established that you like bland low rent jerky. That's good to know. That doesn't make you a fool, that just means that we have different taste in jerky. Even if you don't like real quality meat, I would think that Bourgeois would get at least a C, but the F makes me think that maybe you have some kind of ax to grind or something. I don't know. Good luck to you and your blog.

You're obviously confused. We don't sell it anywhere in NOLA or Baton Rouge. I know that because we don't sell it anywhere except our one store right outside of Thibodaux.

I'm with the majority of the post here I think their jerky is great. So if in the area please give it a try and decide for yourself. I've never tried any of the pre packed stuff, only fresh from the shop. Buy more than you think you need cause one pound just won't make the ride home.

Try their hog's head cheese or their deliciuos turkey cheese and you will be hooked for life, no joke. Everything this market sells is TOP SHELF no if's ands or buts about it. Don't let this blog BS you their meat is off the hook.
(no pun)

There is no doubt the originator of this post did not the real deal, he must of tried a knockoff.

You must be the competition!!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the person writing this blog is closely related to a competitor because anyone with taste buds will tell you that Bourgeois' beef jerky is the absolute best. I've been making the drive from Baton Rouge down to Thibodaux for years to pick up a couple pounds of fresh and a box of shrink-wrapped to send to friends and customers. This jerky is the absolute best I've ever tasted.

So, I'm the competition??? What competition? There's no other place in the Thibodaux area that sells beef jerky. I stand by my review...

Dude you are insane.. Bourgeois' jerky is incredible.. I only wish it were closer because when I buy it, I get like 10lbs at the time and wipe it out way too quick.
